The human body is a truly amazing thing. When we damage it, it has the ability to regenerate what was damaged. Take your average cut for instance; When you cut open your skin, the cells regenerate to repair what was broken. This concept is called biological regeneration. But this is not biology class. Today I will talk about another type of regeneration, that is, Christian regeneration.
So what is Christian Regeneration? Well, it is quite similar to biological regeneration, except it is not physical. This type of regeneration is spiritual. What exactly is regenerating then? Well, remember that we are a broken people, filled with sinful nature from birth. When we accept Christ a miraculous event occurs where we begin to regenerate to who God wants us to be. You see, when one accepts Christ he begins to work in their heart.
One thing I've heard people admit, especially teenagers is that they don't want to become a Christian because they'll miss out on things they want to do. Things like drugs, premarital sex, and more. But this is a very flawed way of thinking. When you become a follower of Christ, and truly commit to him, the joy and purpose you get is beyond anything you could get elsewhere. You find you don't crave to do such things. It is replaced by something much better. You aren't “missing out” when you loose this craving, if anything you are saved. Of course temptation still comes. Whatever your biggest vice is will be especially difficult to overcome. Just like biological regeneration, Christian regeneration is not instantaneous. In fact, it is not fully complete until you are united with God in heaven. Until then it's like an old wound that tends to split open easily.
So in review, Christian regeneration is how one begins to change for the better when they accept Christ. But why is this significant? Well, it shows that even the most troubled people have hope. If someone you know, or you even, struggle with something you think is unforgivable, then hear this; God not only can forgive you, but he can help you. He has provided you a way to be regenerated, free of sin, if you accept his loving gift. Ezekiel 36:26-27 reads “"Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”
Ephesians 2:4-5 reads: “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),”
So you see we really do have hope. This is because a loving God has provided us a way out of our sin, not only in heaven, but on earth as well. So trust in the Lord, and become alive again with Christ.
